First it was email, then Facebook and Instagram, and now, LinkedIn.
Lately, I’ve been noticing comments on certain posts that are completely irrelevant, and seem like automated replies.
Like an ad post about diesel operated water pumps, with a comment that says “Thanks [name]. Your posts are so inspirational,” 🤷🏻♂️ with a flurry of similar ones underneath, that have nothing to do with the subject.
Here’s how it works; one of your connections posts about diesel water pumps, your robot comments on it with a one-liner from a database of generic responses, faking engagement. So the next time you post, you show up in their feed.
The problem with that is, as one of my connections, I am also being told that you commented on it. And I’m not going to think very highly of you for that asinine comment, or for using a bot.
I won’t name names here, you know who you are.
And I hope your bot responds with “I’m so happy for you, mate!” when someone posts their mum’s obituary.
Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼
